On 29 December 2024, Saga Vigor Bandung filled up with a sea of gig-goers and scene kids dressed for the occasion. Pride N'Joy had just pulled off its very first live event, selling out around 190 tickets. For a debut, it is safe to say Sound of Joy Vol. 1 landed.
The night ran six acts deep, five bands and one DJ. At 7 PM sharp, Kapsul opened the room. The newly formed Bandung nu-metal outfit had already drawn a solid crowd, some of them singing along, and set the tone for everything that followed. Puremoon came next with tracks from their latest album, their shoegaze wall of sound pulling the room in and even coaxing out a rare stage dive, an uncommon sight for the genre.

As the venue swelled, Rounder, a chaotic Bandung metal band fresh off an EP, seized the stage and never let go. From the first note they took over, igniting a non-stop frenzy in the pit and turning in one of the most intense sets of the night. Nahla, the fierce vocalist of Tasik's hardcore scene, pushed the heat higher still, trading piercing screams with a crowd that only grew wilder.
By 9 PM it was time for the headliner. Enola had traveled all the way from Surabaya, and they brought a melancholic, blue-hued shoegaze atmosphere with them. A Stop the Genocide message in support of Palestine moved across the visuals, and the room felt it deeply, some in the crowd shedding tears as the lyrics hit home. DJ Klav then closed things out with an epic set, sending everyone home on a high.
Sound of Joy Vol. 1 was a night to remember and a historic first for Pride N'Joy. The best part? Vol. 2 was already on the way, with a bigger and bolder lineup waiting in the wings.
