Selvedge takes its name from self-edge: a clean, self-finished border created right in the weaving, with no overlock stitch needed to keep it from fraying. It's the edge you reveal when you cuff your jeans -- a quiet badge of pride among denim heads worldwide.
Unlike modern denim run off high-speed projectile looms, selvedge is woven on traditional shuttle looms. A wooden shuttle passes back and forth across the warp, producing narrow rolls around 70 to 80 cm wide, each finished with that distinctive edge. It's slow, deliberate work -- roughly 100 meters of fabric a day. That's precisely where the beauty lives; no modern machine can replicate what this pace produces.

Because the shuttle works at a human rhythm, thread tension shifts subtly throughout the weave. The result is a fabric full of irregularities -- more alive, more textured, unique to every cut. Wear it long enough and it fades into something personal and high-contrast, a record of how you actually live.
Every selvedge carries its story along the edge. Mills once used colored selvedge IDs to mark whose fabric they were weaving: Levi's ran red, Lee ran green, Wrangler ran yellow-gold. We weave our own signature detailing into ours, so the edge itself tells you where it came from.
Selvedge is usually 100% high-grade cotton, and most often worn raw. Unwashed at the factory, it starts stiff and strong, then softens and molds to your body, taking on creases and fades that mirror your own journey. That durability makes it more sustainable, too -- you replace it far less often, and washing it rarely (the trick behind those coveted high-contrast fades) means less water and less waste.
