1. From Cotton to Jeans
It takes around 150 cotton balls to make a single pair of jeans. That’s nearly 7 to 8 kilometers of cotton thread in every rigid pair you own! Oh, and one bale of cotton? It can create about 225 pairs of jeans. Impressive, right?

2. Before Jeans, They Were “Waist Overalls”
The term “jeans” wasn’t always part of the denim vocabulary. Before the 1930s, people called them waist overalls. It wasn’t until brands started popularizing them that “jeans” became the go-to name.

3. Jeans - Rebellion
In the 1950s, wearing blue jeans was considered rebellious. Schools, theaters, and even restaurants banned them, worried about the “anti-establishment” vibes.

4. The Truth About the Fifth Pocket
Think the small pocket is the famous fifth pocket? Not quite. The fifth pocket refers to the left back pocket, which Levi’s added in 1901. The small coin/watch pocket has been around since the earliest versions of jeans.

5. Water Heavyweights
Your jeans may feel light, but making them takes a lot of water — around 7,000 to 8,000 liters to produce just one pair!

6. Zipper History
Before zippers were the norm, Lee became the first brand to use a hookless fastener (zipper) in 1927, starting with their rugged cowboy jeans and overalls.

7. Dutch Denim Lovers
If you think you have too many jeans, think again. The average person in the Netherlands owns around 5.4 pairs of jeans, more than anyone else in the Western world!

8. Belt Loop Evolution
Belt loops weren’t always part of the design. Levi’s introduced them in 1922 as an alternative to suspenders. These days, jeans typically have 5 belt loops, but Wrangler upped the game in 1947 by adding 7 loops and they’ve kept it that way ever since.

9. Fabric Talk
A pair of non-selvedge jeans needs around 1.6 meters of denim fabric. But for selvedge jeans, it takes 2.5 meters of shuttle loom-woven denim, part of why they come at a premium.
